Becoming a Christian
Christianity is a journey of faith. And, as the old Chinese proverb says, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. In the case of the Christian journey, that first step is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and to free your life from sin.
While that may sound daunting, it can be a fulfilling and rewarding experience, and as with any journey, you are not traveling alone. Instead, you are joined by your brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world.
As you continue your journey and grow in the faith, there are many milestones for you to pass. Such as, being baptized, joining a church, studying the bible and hopefully one day sharing your faith with your loved ones.
As your faith journey proceeds, you may desire to be baptized as a believer in Jesus Christ. Baptism is the outward sign of God’s inward love for us and also our decision to accept God’s love and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. Our relationship with God also calls us into deeper relationships with one another. Christians believe God has given us the community we call the church, and you may choose to join the covenant of serving membership in Community Church and become active in a life group. Our life groups provide spiritual opportunities to deepen our relationships with God and with one another.
However, there is no need to rush to reach these milestones, as with any journey, we all travel at our own speed. While there may be many people further ahead then you on the journey, a true Christian will not look down on you, instead they will help you and guide you, as others once did for them.
For, as Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls, For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” [Matthew 11; 28-38]
